General Overview

Our course is the Certified Permaculture Design Course (PDC) of 72 hours, as originally taught by the founders of Permaculture: Bill Mollison and David Holmgren. The complete Permaculture Design Course (PDC) is an intensive 72-hour program. This course includes study modules supported by practical exercises, 1:1 tutoring with your personal tutor, photos, fieldwork, videos, and live classes.

Students can start the course at any time. There is a one-year time limit to complete it, but most students finish the course within 2-3 months. There are assignments for each section: questions related to the material covered in the course. Some of the assignments include outdoor activities, observation, and drawing exercises, as well as the Final Design Project. All assignment materials and the Final Design Project can be submitted electronically.

Upon completion of the course, you will receive an internationally recognized Permaculture Design Certificate. Only those who have completed an official 72-hour PDC course are legally authorized to use the word «Permaculture» for commercial purposes.

Objectives and Outcomes

The PDC course should provide you with enough information and feedback to:

  • Plan and implement a Permaculture system for yourself and others.
  • Evaluate systems and structures for sustainability and resilience.
  • Design sustainable human settlements.
  • Develop ecological food production systems.
  • Design water harvesting systems and land movement techniques.
  • Build healthy soils, sequester carbon, and naturally increase fertility.
  • Design non-toxic natural homes and structures that heat and cool without costly systems or external inputs.
  • Incorporate relevant Permaculture ideas and methods into existing systems (home, office, business, ecological restoration sites).
  • Develop your research in specific systems, technologies, or strategies.
  • Develop personal interests in Permaculture subject areas.
  • Foster community interest in activities focusing on real growth and development (not just economic).
  • Start sustainable income streams and/or initiate businesses related to Permaculture.
  • The design course should provide you with a deep understanding of Permaculture design and allow you to start teaching others.

Why take an online permaculture course?

  • Study at your own pace and from anywhere in the world.
  • Have access to materials 24/7 and for up to one year.
  • Be able to design your own project.
  • Receive 1:1 tutoring and live group classes in small groups.
  • Receive certification.
  • Be able to dive deeper into topics through home assignments, group work, and close review with your personal tutor.

How does the online course work?

We have live tutorials every week. We offer several groups with different schedules to fit your pace. You can attend all tutorials and adjust your study pace according to your needs. The live tutorials are not mandatory but are an added service. All materials and videos are available on our eCampus.

Each course topic includes live classes and home assignments. The assignments will be reviewed by your personal tutor, and you can receive one-on-one tutoring to clear up any doubts you may have.

Throughout the course, you will develop your own design for your project. This design will be reviewed for the CDP certification. At the end of the course, the designs will be presented in a colloquium.

Example Tutorial: Topic 1.4 Natural Systems Design

This video is an example of a live tutorial. The topic is 1.4 Natural Systems Design.

Permaculture book

In this completely revised and updated edition of her hugely successful book, Rosemary Morrow brings us up to date with the need to measure, monitor, and reduce our ecological footprint. Permaculture is both a philosophy and a practical approach to land use, based on three core principles: care for people, care for the earth, and redistributing what is left after meeting our own needs.
